  MASSAGE
THERAPY

A process of manual manipulation of the body's muscular and soft tissue structure through a variety of techniques ranging from relaxation to clinical and therapeutic applications. The benefits are increased range of motion and flexibioty, stress reduction, and improved circulation helping to achieve an overall feeling of well-being.

  SWEDISH MASSAGE
A classical European massage technique of the muscles with special oils by therapeutic stroking and kneading of muscle tissue to promote stress relief. It is used to improve circulation, relieve muscle pain and tension, increase flexibility and induce relaxation. It combines three basic strokes to the skin: long, firm strokes; kneading strokes; and small cirlce. This is the most requested qnd one of themost enjoyable massages.
  DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles. This invigorating experience is a process of detection of stiff or painful areas by determining the quality and texture of the deeper layers of musculature, and slowly working into the deep layers of muscle tissue. Specific hand positions and strokes are then used to respond to various tissue qualities.
  CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
A holistic, hands-on technique involving gentle manipulation of the bones of the skull, the underlying meningeal membranes, and the nerve endings in the scalp. A practitioner is able to “listen” with their hands to what is called the cranial rhythmic impulse, which runs throughout our bodies.
  REFLEXOLOGY
A form of massage in which pressure is applied to certain parts of the feet and hands in order to promote relaxation and healing elsewhere in the body. A science based on the belief that each part of the body is interconnected through the nervous system to the hands and feet. Stimulating specific reflex points in the feet can bring needed nutrients to poorly functioning areas of the body. This can help restore balance throughout the body.
  CHAIR MASSAGE
One name for a short (15-20 minute) massage of a client sitting in a special, portable massage chair. The client remains fully clothed and no oils are used while their shoulders, neck, upper back, head and arms are massaged. On-Site is popular at some offices as an employee benefit and for some conferences, workshops and certain social events.
  FIBROMYALGIA
A chronic disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and multiple tender points that occurs in precise, localized areas, particularly in the neck, spine, shoulders, and hips; also may cause sleep disturbances, morning stiffness, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, and other symptoms.
  EAR CANDLING
Ear candling is a method that proponents say removes ear wax and "toxins" from a person's ear. Also called ear coning. It involves placing a hollow candle in the ear canal and lighting it; allegedly, the rising hot air pulls out the toxins and wax.
